2002 Thomas C. Wales Award Dinner


The first annual "Night Among Heroes" was held Saturday, November 10, 2002. The featured speaker was U.S. Senator John Kerry. Senatory Kerry is a member of the Foundation's Advisory Board.

The 2002 recipient of the Thomas C. Wales Award for Passionate Citizenship was Kikora Dorsey. Kikora is a senior manager at Casey Family Programs and is a long time community activist and advocate for children and families. She devotes time to a number of community based efforts including the Black Child Development Institute - Seattle, The University of Washington Friends of the educational Opporunities Programs and serves as committee chair or board member on numerous other initiatives aimed at improving the lives of the disadvantaged.

Four other Puget Sound community leaders received recognition from the Foundation as Finalists for the 2002 Passionate Citizenship award: Aubrey Davis, Reuven Carlyle, Lisa Macfarlane, and Sam Mitsui.

Gene Wilson served as Master of ceremonies. Closing remarks were made by Ron Sims, King County Executive.
